Savanna Bop and Hello Pilgrim

Hi all :)

Just catching up by posting a few newly completed quilts.  First up is this Savanna Bop by Thomas Knauer.  The blocks and Fabric were gifted to me for my 6 month old son Tyler by Heather of Fiberosity who had leftovers from making this awesome quilt.  She took some photos of Ty on the quilt one day and he loved the colors and patterns in it so she gifted him the leftovers so I could make him his own mini version :)







It's backed in a soft white and blue striped flannel which was also donated to my stash from Heather.  Noticing a trend here yet???



And I completed the free embroidery pattern to go with it and added his name below.  I changed the coffee cup to a mod flower that reminded me of the circles in the fabric prints from this line.  Why did I change it?  Well, the baby doesn't drink coffee yet ;)



The second quilt I'm sharing today is made from Hello Pilgrim by Lizzy House.  I purchased the bundle of fat quarters I used from Jessica at Remnants Fiber Culture here in Austin.  The design was inspired by this cute free Paper Pieced Pennants border pattern.









The backing is a vintage sheet and the binding is the worst binding job I've ever done.  It was seriously a mess.  Cut the binding too narrow for double fold, pressed ahead anyhow, used a small piece of fabric so I had a million seams.  Someday, I'll have to take it off and redo it.  Since it's being used as a playmat for the baby, I'm not too worried about it right now though ;)

Camden's "Lean Like a Cholo" Quilt

Camden, my oldest boy, is not a quilt lover.  He loves fabric, patterns, building things, and playing with my design wall.  When it comes to favorite blankets though, he always picks cheap fleece softies instead of the quilts I make him.  For example, the first quilt I made him was an eye spy quilt.  He would pretend to like it then hide it in his closet after I left from putting him to bed.  I'd find it balled up in a corner the next morning.  Finally, he admitted it scared him with the Halloween Monster Eyes square on it.  So, he went back to fleece again.  Then, I decided, since he didn't like sleeping with quilts, I'd make him a playmat quilt.  So, I quilted him a little train tracks panel for him to ride his trains on.  It too got ignored, he preferred building with tracks.  Next, we had an ugly fabric challenge at the Austin Modern Quilt Guild and I made a little sock monkey doll quilt.  Camden desperately wanted it and claimed it as his own.  He changed his mind and gave it back to me a few months later.   I was ready to throw in the towel on making quilts for him.  He just never seemed happy with them.  But, on a trip to Remnants, he found a new favorite fabric and picked out a bundle begging me to make it into a quilt for him.....and I can't tell him no, so.....

Lots of latin flavor like the hearts and crosses.  The fabrics are Folklorico from Alexander Henry with some
tribals from Africa and other prints from my stash thrown in.  The bundle is from Remnants Fiber Culture here in Austin.

The fabric in the upper left with the woven Aztec feel to it is the one that started him falling in love with this bundle.

I'm happy to report that he is sleeping under this quilt every night.  In a strange turn of events, his love of this quilt made him take a second look at that eye spy quilt and decide it was pretty cool too.  Now he plays eye spy before bed with me every night using that quilt and sleeps under a stack of blankets.  He sleeps with a favorite fleece blanket, his eye spy quilt and his new quilt each and every night :)

Ellie's Polkadot Quilt

Ellie, who is turning three this July, informed me that she needed a big girl quilt.  She has a lovely quilt, which looks like this:







It's a simple friendship star alternated with plain blocks.  It has little fussy cut babies in the centers of the stars.  She calls it her babies quilt and she can't stand to sleep without it.

Lately though, she's been telling people she is 6 years old.  I guess she thinks she is the same as her big sister.

Obviously though...she is not six...

But she happily chose a bundle of fat quarters from Jessica's shop Remnants in Austin.  And a Rose Card Pattern to match.  And now...she has a new big girl quilt.  She still sleeps with her babies quilt too, but she is quite proud of her big girl quilt.  Even though only one of the fabrics is dotted, she calls it "the polkadot quilt"

My new favorite solid is by Connecting Threads.  It's their Mirage blender in Silver Lining.  But I like to use the back side of that particular fabric.  It has a lovely suiting or linen looking weave to it and looks great in every project I use it in :)

The back has a hand embroidered dish towel pieced into it.  It's super sweet with two little kitties under the moonlight.

I screen printed the tag for this one and added some of the fabric from the front and a bit of rick rack to finish it off.

A Sweet New Seat

I went to the Country Living Fair with my mom during her visit. Lots of vendors were selling amazing reupholstered furniture which was way out of my price range. Especially with how furniture gets treated by the little ones. So, I picked up an 8$ thrift store chair and used some leftover paint. I used some pretty Waverly home dec vintage fabric from the fair to cover the cushion.
















I even picked up a fun vintage quilt at the fair. So bright and cozy ;)

Cute Polar Bears

I was lucky enough to win a fat quarter bundle of Laurie Wisbrun's new line.  It hasn't been released yet but it's called Brrr!  It's produced by Robert Kaufman.  I used it to make a super cute little modern quilt.

I improv pieced 4 blocks and then kept it super simple with lots of natural linen.  It was quilted in vertical lines of varying widths.
