Flea Market Fancy Quilt

Lookie what I finished :)

 This is the pattern Seashell by VillaRosa Designs.  It features two colors of Moda Grunge by Basic Grey for the "solids" and a charm pack of the new release of Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt for the squares.

 This quilt is extra special to me because it's the first time I've actually had someone else professionally longarm one of my quilts.  The lovely Jessica at Remnants Fiber Culture quilted it with a floral and swirl motif in a lovely minty thread shade.  I freaking love it.

The binding is also from Flea Market Fancy

The back is a vintage sheet on this one

This little Amy Butler Lark quilt is made from Villa Rosa Designs Pattern Eureka and six fat quarters of Lark

 It has a vintage quilt block pieced into the back

and features a double loop quilting pattern

                                     Complete with Grunge by Basic Gray borders and twee circus flags

                                    The Grunge fabric will be vertical sashing too, but I'm not there yet...

Savanna Bop and Hello Pilgrim

Hi all :)

Just catching up by posting a few newly completed quilts.  First up is this Savanna Bop by Thomas Knauer.  The blocks and Fabric were gifted to me for my 6 month old son Tyler by Heather of Fiberosity who had leftovers from making this awesome quilt.  She took some photos of Ty on the quilt one day and he loved the colors and patterns in it so she gifted him the leftovers so I could make him his own mini version :)







It's backed in a soft white and blue striped flannel which was also donated to my stash from Heather.  Noticing a trend here yet???



And I completed the free embroidery pattern to go with it and added his name below.  I changed the coffee cup to a mod flower that reminded me of the circles in the fabric prints from this line.  Why did I change it?  Well, the baby doesn't drink coffee yet ;)



The second quilt I'm sharing today is made from Hello Pilgrim by Lizzy House.  I purchased the bundle of fat quarters I used from Jessica at Remnants Fiber Culture here in Austin.  The design was inspired by this cute free Paper Pieced Pennants border pattern.









The backing is a vintage sheet and the binding is the worst binding job I've ever done.  It was seriously a mess.  Cut the binding too narrow for double fold, pressed ahead anyhow, used a small piece of fabric so I had a million seams.  Someday, I'll have to take it off and redo it.  Since it's being used as a playmat for the baby, I'm not too worried about it right now though ;)

The "oooh oooh oooh" phase

My six month old has reached the phase of development where he knows to complain rather than outright scream, but he only knows how to make a few sounds.   So, whenever he wants anything, all day long, he goes "oooh oooh oooh" in a disgruntled voice.  I remember it getting better with all the others once they got more mobile and weren't getting stuck in various baby entertainment contraptions whenever I had to get something done.  I don't want him to grow up too fast, but I'd be OK with him learning to make a few other noises when complaining.  His lack of interest in his baby toys is putting a bit of a cramp into my crafting/quilting/blogging time, but his giggles and cuddles are more than making up for it.  He's so big now!  He grew 2.5 inches and 2.5 pounds in the last two months alone.  The doctor said that's quite a growth spurt ;)

I've made a few 241 Totes recently, one was used as a gift bag for the end of the year

teacher gift we made for my daughter's teacher this year.  

It was so fun to make it, that I made a second one for myself out of some Heather Ross Spoonflower 

fabrics.  I love this pattern and the bag itself is so functional.  I used a canvas dropcloth from Home

Depot for the natural on my tote.

I made a matching phone case and zippy pouch too :)

I also made my first little zombie block for my quilting bee quilt.  My month is July and I can't wait to 

see the cute little zombie blocks my friends make for me.

I also made a wall hanging for my Dad for Father's Day:

And I made some little monster pouches modeled after the ones by Basic Grey for the kiddos to take on our vacation

And, last but not least, some embroidery and cross stitching and a work in progress...

Next on my list is finishing this binding by hand sewing it down

So, while I was at my quilting retreat.....

My 6 year old sent me an email.  She's recently learned to email and basically sends messages to her Nana and I only.  When I read her email, she specifically asked if I was making her anything on my retreat.  I told her the truth, I brought a couple of different quilts to work on.  None were specifically meant for her, but, if one appealed to her when I returned, she could have it.

I knew that meant I was going to lose my sparkly quilt.  You see, my friend Heather bought a Lost and Found by Riley Blake quilt kit and made a quilt from it.  I saw the quilt at her house and it just stuck in my head.  The sparkles were subtle and pretty and I wanted one for me.  So I ordered the sparkly fat quarters and a charm pack of the non sparkly fabrics.  I brought it with me to make myself a quilt on the retreat.  My 6 year old girlie girl loves sparkles so it was no longer my quilt.....simple as that ;)

Can you tell by the blue eye shadow she put on to go out for ice cream that she's kinda into girl stuff???


I used the Granny Squares Tutorial and it was well written and easy to follow.





She wanted the back to be "as purple as possible" so that it would be reversible, like two quilts in one.



That's most of the purple from my stash, I need to restock ;)

She fretted about the binding for a bit, but Jessica  saved the day by finding some pink sparkly fabric for her to use and made her day.  We added some purple as the pink was a small remnant.
Gabi is thrilled with the quilt and sleeps under it every night :)


I'm not too heartbroken though, I made a quilt for me on the retreat too:











Made from a bundle of LouLouThi fabric by Anna Maria Horner that I purchased from Jessica.  I backed it with a vintage sari from the thrift store.  It's just the right size to take on my trip so I have a safe place to lay Ty or keep us warm on the plane :)
