Happy Halloween

Our Halloween was just lovely :)  The weekend before, we went to a pumpkin patch and had a ton of fun racing rubber ducks, going through mazes, choosing pumpkins and making a pandified scarecrow.

They even had a little craft area where kids could decorate a free teeny pumpkin.  Here's Gabi's

Then, we carved the pumpkins we brought home.  Gabi wanted Hello Kitty:

 Camden wanted the ice bird from Angry Birds Space

Ellie's only request was that her pumpkin be sleepy.

 Ellie made an awesome footprint ghost plate at her preschool which was really fun to receive.

On Halloween, we all wore costumes, I didn't wear mine for long though ;)  Hubby was Mario since Ellie wanted to be Peach.

 



These store bought costumes were a mess after one day of wear, but that's okay since we don't dress like video game characters most of the time anyhow ;)

Camden chose Pac Man for his costume, I made him a 2D pacman and he asked Tyler to be a baby red ghost.







Gabi asked to be Knuffle Bunny from her favorite book by Mo Willems, it was a complicated one to make, but she loved it.

And, when the hat got too heavy......this happened....

The kids wanted me to dress up so I put together a Jill Valentine from Resident Evil costume.  For reference, this is her:

Aparently, dorky is all I achieve when I try for a "serious" or "cool" face in pics ;)

I wore this for all of three seconds before deciding it was horrifically uncomfy and switching to regular clothes to shlep the kids from house to house.  It was my 36th birthday this Halloween and I honestly had so much fun :)  

My Date Night Dress

I made a dress to wear on a date night with my husband.  We were celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary.  We had a great night.  First, we dropped the kids off at a local kids night out event.  Then, we went out to a steakhouse for dinner and enjoyed a leisurely meal without worrying that the baby might melt down at any moment ;)  After that, we had massages and strolled around the bookstore for coffee and magazines.  It was a lovely evening and I'm so glad we made the time for it.

Here's what I wore, remember, I'm in Texas so it's a balmy 90 degrees in the evenings here right now ;)





It's This pattern.  I was super impressed with Lekala.  I got my extremely reasonably priced patterns in no time.  When I had an issue downloading the sewing instructions, I received a speedy response and copies of the instructions were emailed to me.  I have a 34H bust so dresses involve crazy amounts of alterations to commercial patterns.  With Lekala, I just included the measurements they asked for and the dress fit perfectly with no alterations :)

Savanna Bop and Hello Pilgrim

Hi all :)

Just catching up by posting a few newly completed quilts.  First up is this Savanna Bop by Thomas Knauer.  The blocks and Fabric were gifted to me for my 6 month old son Tyler by Heather of Fiberosity who had leftovers from making this awesome quilt.  She took some photos of Ty on the quilt one day and he loved the colors and patterns in it so she gifted him the leftovers so I could make him his own mini version :)







It's backed in a soft white and blue striped flannel which was also donated to my stash from Heather.  Noticing a trend here yet???



And I completed the free embroidery pattern to go with it and added his name below.  I changed the coffee cup to a mod flower that reminded me of the circles in the fabric prints from this line.  Why did I change it?  Well, the baby doesn't drink coffee yet ;)



The second quilt I'm sharing today is made from Hello Pilgrim by Lizzy House.  I purchased the bundle of fat quarters I used from Jessica at Remnants Fiber Culture here in Austin.  The design was inspired by this cute free Paper Pieced Pennants border pattern.









The backing is a vintage sheet and the binding is the worst binding job I've ever done.  It was seriously a mess.  Cut the binding too narrow for double fold, pressed ahead anyhow, used a small piece of fabric so I had a million seams.  Someday, I'll have to take it off and redo it.  Since it's being used as a playmat for the baby, I'm not too worried about it right now though ;)

All The Way From Malaysia and Other News

Some more prizes from Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day arrived.  They came all the way from Malaysia, courtesy of  Whimsy Loft

                                            I won an adorable snap pouch :)

                                            Made from the cutest little animal fabric

                                            And lined in the sweetest flowers

                                           There was some really cool fabric tape in the package

                                            And some adorable stickers, which the kids stole right away

                                          My son was making the same face as his sticker

                                            My two year old put her favorite sticker on her head

                                            And, even their daddy got in on the action ;)

We're having a great Father's Day weekend so far.  We've been to the pool:

And Gabi and I went to Remnants Fiber Culture here in Austin for a Post Quilt Market Soiree, which was so fab :)

               to have won one :)
